Keep A Breast has a bold mission: Reducing breast cancer risk globally through early detection and prevention education.
The organization was co-founded by Shaney Jo Darden and Mona Mukherjea-Gehrig in 2000 to raise awareness and change the global narrative of women’s health and breast cancer prevention.
Celebrity supporters include Devo, Pink, Gwen Stefani, Sal Masakela, Foo Fighters, Iggy Pop, and Pink.
This decade-long, exuberantly creative and productive partnership with Shaney Jo has taken many forms. My roles have spanned from producing multi-location shoots from pre-production to post-production and delivery. My roles have included: Producer, writer, director, DoP, still photography/BTS, scouting director, editor, audio engineer, and creative consultant. Assets from both projects reached across KAB media, including social media and events.
The first one shown here, “Worm Dreams Big,” is an award-winning film shot at First Point, Malibu, during a women’s surf contest featuring Shaney Jo and Erin “Worm” Ashley, emphasizing the importance of women’s wellness interwoven with women’s longboard surfing. The film went on to show at many women’s film festivals and fundraising events. Notably, it was an official selection of the Women’s Surf Film Festival in NYC.
The second project shown is the story of building “Keep A Breast Valley,” a health and wellness center in Joshua Tree: The Keep A Breast Valley (KAB Valley) is envisioned as a sanctuary for breast cancer survivors, those diagnosed with breast cancer, and their loved ones. Created by The Keep A Breast Foundation, a global nonprofit founded in 2000, the retreat reflects the organization’s mission: to reduce breast cancer risk and its impact through art, education, prevention, and action.
